I’ve spoken to a lot of experienced Recruitment Consultants over the last two months and there are many whose confidence has taken a real beating during this COVID pandemic.
I thought this would be a good time to look at ways to rebuild your confidence in the work environment, especially for those Recruiters in Melbourne going into their last week of Stage 4 lockdown.
As we all know, confident people tend to be more successful at work, are happier, and are not afraid to get a deal done. They are also willing to face new challenges in a difficult market.
Here are some helpful tips to boost your confidence which will hopefully lead to more placements!
1. Cut out negative self-talk. A positive mentality will help you learn new skills and ultimately help boost your confidence. When you find yourself speaking negatively or criticizing yourself, immediately switch it to something positive instead. This positive mentality also shines through over the phone and helps establish you as an authority who knows their market.
2. Increase your knowledge. When you take the time to learn a new skill or piece of knowledge, you’ll have faith that what you’re doing is correct. Become a subject matter expert in your market. Find a mentor and surround yourself with successful Recruiters that you can learn from.
3. Work on your strengths. A proven way to boost confidence in the workplace is to focus on excelling at the skills you are already good at. This is a great way to get a few wins under your belt and lay a good foundation to build on for future success.
4. Ask questions. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if there is something you don’t know or understand. I know a Million Dollar Biller who attributes her success to asking questions of her clients and candidates when she started in her sector. She found that most people are very willing to share their knowledge and this does not just help you become a subject matter expert, it also helps develop trust and excellent long-term relationships.
5. Most importantly – HAVE FUN. Taking yourself too seriously in the workplace will leave your self-esteem in tatters when you encounter setbacks. Of course, you want to be good at your job, but this does not mean that you need to be serious 100% of the time. You are allowed to have fun with your colleagues, clients and candidates and having a laugh is good for the soul. People will want to work with you if they know you are good at your job and also fun to deal with.
A little extra confidence can go a long way toward helping you reach your career goals. Think of these tips the next time you’re feeling doubtful about your skills or abilities and you’ll be able to increase your confidence in no time and results will follow.
