We are a proactive Recruitment company. We don’t use Seek or any other job boards to attract Candidates. We Headhunt all day every day.
I find one of the best times to approach Candidates is three or four months into their tenure because so many new starters are promised the earth during the interview process and have been delivered very little once they start.
This is surprisingly common and don’t let it happen to you!
You need to be asking the right questions during the interview process. Here are the TOP TEN basics I suggest my Candidates ask:
- Do you have structured KPI’s that need to be met on a daily / weekly basis?
- What sort of training & induction will be provided?
- What sort of people do well in your company?
- Can you describe your Management style?
- What is the typical OTE of a successful Consultant in their first year?
- What are the revenue targets you set for your Consultants and how are they calculated?
- Are bonuses / commissions paid monthly or quarterly and do you have a “deficit model”? How are the commissions calculated? (Don’t join a business that has a discretionary commission structure – it needs to be transparent).
- What is the average tenure of Consultants in your business?
- What ongoing training, development and career progression opportunities do you provide?
- Am I expected to build a client base from scratch or do you have live jobs / clients / PSAs that I can work with from day one?
Don’t forget the ball is in your court, and it’s up to you to ask the right questions and do your due diligence. For what it’s worth, a good Rec to Rec can give you some great insights into different cultures, management styles and remuneration models.
