DMITRI IS GOING DRY THIS JULY – HELP HIM RAISE $1K TO HELP PEOPLE WITH CANCER

Dry July 2021

Yes, you heard that right! As our office’s biggest beer aficionado (self-described) I’m ready to put the pints aside for a month, challenge myself, and give back to the community.

My aim is to raise $1000 to help those suffering from cancer. This is more than twice the average amount raised of $415 by Dry July participants but I hope it’s an achievable round sum – with your help.

A whole month for me is, without a doubt, going to be a personal challenge and worthy of generating some positive creative force around it. Let’s create something that I, and everyone who donates to the cause, can give back to the community, together.

To donate, please click on the image below to be taken to the official Dry July Foundation website. Thank you.

Alcohol and Recruitment

Working in agency recruitment is commonly referred to as a ‘Roller Coaster’ or ‘Champagne and Razor Blades’, or a ‘High-Pressure Sales Job’. Aye, that is completely true because we, as recruiters, are trying to control a sales process that involves a lot of human factors so it’s virtually out of control, yet the individual revenue targets are written in stone.

So, how does one blow off steam at the end of a big day/week?

“The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom; for we never know what is enough until we know what is more than enough.”
– William Blake

Booze is a great social lubricant and integral to celebrating wins with your teammates. On the brain chemistry level, alcohol achieves this by increasing the effects of GABA neurotransmitter, which is responsible for the feelings of calm and euphoria, whilst decreasing glutamate which is responsible for excitability. So, frequent or excessive drinking results in your brain producing less GABA and more glutamate, resulting in a more anxious and less focused state of mind – on on-going basis!

Career recruiters know that kicking goals in our industry is not always a short-term affair. Long-term success requires finding balance in all aspects of one’s life and growing as an individual as you become a better recruiter. I hope that this next month away from the pub for me would encourage others to take on a Dry July challenge in the years to come.
