The running joke/actual problem of the toilet paper shortage aside, the business environment right now is facing a crisis. In part, because this is all so unprecedented, unanticipated and new. Here are some tips to help all you hardworking recruiters through these uncertain times!
BE THE BEACON OF CALM
Many business people, including some of your clients, are in a state of panic right now. Be the voice of positivity, encouragement and hope in all your conversations. You will stand out from the crowd and people will associate the positive interactions in the time of uncertainty with your personal brand.
DONT LOOK AT/READ/FOLLOW MASS MEDIA TOO MUCH
The mainstream news channels are doing nothing but regurgitating the same information over and over and perpetuating the state the panic. Checking the news for the latest updates is distracting, addictive and counterproductive. Recruiters are salespeople and we need to keep a positive mindset!
SPEND AS MUCH TIME AS POSSIBLE ON THE PHONE
Your clients and candidates will remember you being there and making an effort during the uncertain times.
REINFORCE YOUR BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS
If the hiring decisions are being delayed or canceled, make sure you stay close to both your candidates and clients, and keep on prospecting and building new business!
IF YOU ARE WORKING FROM HOME, MAKE SURE THE PLACE IS NEAT AND ORGANISED
If you don’t have a dedicated home office, you will need a clean and organised environment with no clutter. You don’t want to be distracted with cleaning chores during core business hours.
MAINTAIN YOUR REGULAR WORK HOURS
Keep yourself psychologically in your most productive work mood, even if that means dressing in your business casual/work attire to stay focused.
I look forward to keeping in touch with all my candidates and clients and, together, pushing through the hard patch!
